5 Ways to Prepare for Your Black Belt Test

students preparing for black belt testEveryone knows what a black belt is, but did you know that only 1 in 10,000 martial arts students earn a black belt? With so much at stake, it would be foolish to just “wing it” the day of. An achievement like a black belt needs physical and mental preparation if one wants to earn the highest rank in martial arts at Draco Academy. Here are 5 key ways to prepare for a black belt test:

1. Work on Your Cardio

A black belt test is a physical juggernaut. There is no time to get fatigued or winded, especially in front of your Draco Academy peers. Without proper levels of cardio weeks before the test, the body’s stamina suffers, and losing your energy could cost you your black belt. Cardio is essential for an increased, sustained heart rate. Be sure to run on a treadmill or simply jog around your neighborhood for best results.

2. Build Your Self-Confidence

The secret downfall of many students in martial arts is a lack of mental preparation. Not only must you be physically able to perform your routines, you must believe you are capable above all else. Doubt, or even a lack of self-confidence, can falter any possible black belt. Build a network of support with parents, family, friends, co-workers, and anyone else who could cheer you on. Find inner peace and you will be able to earn your black belt properly.

3. Understand Your Routine

Another key factor in preparing for a black belt test at Draco Academy is to understand what is expected on testing day. Understand the procedures and the routine beforehand. Ask for feedback on weaknesses and adjust strengths with what the test requires. Make sure there are no curveballs or surprises. This will not only help confidence, but it will allow proper physical preparation for the black belt test.

4. Stretch, Stretch, Stretch

On the day of the test, stretch properly. Not only will this prevent pain and aches, it will also increase flexibility. Pulling a muscle could have long-term damage, and this could delay your chances for a black belt significantly.

5. Don’t Give Up

Like driving tests, mistakes will happen. Instead of assuming that an error will cost you your black belt, try to overcome any fear of failure during the test. Expect weaknesses to show, but do not expect to fail instantly. Do not give up, and you will be able to earn your black belt at Draco Academy and achieve what only the few can accomplish.
